The birth of Alerta Kamarada dates back to 1996, when its members were interested in forming a ska group, which two years later experimented with reggae. It was born in the Bogota capital city streets, as a counter cultural response to the historical war.
The recognition in the local scope took them in 2003 to a presentation in the city of Chicago, as part of a concert in honor of Colombia that took place in the edition of that year of the Latin Film Festival. The group became known on Colombian radio from 2004, when they released the album Alerta , from which the songs "Legal" and "Mutín" were broadcast.
Their recognition among the public has earned them several awards by the readers of the magazine Shock as the best Colombian reggae group. In 2006 the duo released the album "We are one." Which was recorded in Jamaica and was produced by legendary Reggae artist and producer Sly Dunbar.
From that album the songs "We are one", "Sound on" (a duet with Fidel Nadal ) and "Princess" were released. The success of this last song allowed Somos uno to be relaunched and distributed by the Universal Music label. In 2009 the group released the album Kaliente, of which they presented the video clip of the song "Por ti, mamá".
In February 2010 they presented the album Historias de Pueblo, from which they released the song "De donde viene la cumbia". In this production, the vallenato musician Alfredo Gutiérrez , Ata, from the group La Etnnia and Charley Anderson from The Selecter, participated as special guests .
